Troop 278 Knot Challenge:

Our Troop's knot challenge tests knot tying skills for all the required advancement knots and other useful & fun knots... from time to time we add new knots..

Scouts earn beads for each set of knots they show they can tie. The beads are displayed on a rope mini-lanyard on their uniform.

Be warned! - once a bead has been earned other Scouts may challenge you to tie that knot again at any time - if you fail to do it in 2 tries and they can tie it correctly they take your bead... watch out!

Clear Bead - (Instructor):

Instruct tying of all the knots above to other Scouts and have them earn the beads for all these knots. Be able to demonstrate tying every knot in 2 different ways (except for the Taut Line Hitch and Sheet Bend).

Earning Knot Beads:

We will hold a Knot Challenge from time to time at regular Troop meetings and may add some special challenge knots for these events.

Scouts may also make knot challenges at any time, but if you make a challenge you must provide a suitable rope.

Once you have earned the black & clear beads if you are challenged and fail you must relearn the required skills or return the bead to the Troop.

You can qualify for colored knot beads at any time with a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and any Scout with an Instructor bead. The Scoutmaster is keeper of the beads...

Demonstrate your Black Bead skills to an adult leader and for the Clear (Instructor) bead identify your students in advance and demonstrate your and their skills to an adult leader.

Wear your Knot Beads with pride on your uniform (right pocket button) and stay sharp!
