Troop Board Of Review Support:
The
Troop Board of Review usually meets monthly. It
serves as a check & balance in a Scout's progression through the Scout Ranks.
Non-Scoutmaster parent volunteers serve for, and at the discretion of, the Troop
committee to monitor the Troop advancement process.
The Board of Review Coordinator (a Committee Officer)
sets up the logistics for the Board of Reviews and recruits parent volunteers
and schedules Scouts into the Reviews - once they have completed their next rank
requirements and have held a Scoutmaster conference.
Board Of Review Parent Participant - Duties:
- Along with several other parents; review a Scout's
completion of rank requirements
- Monitor the knowledge of requirements -
especially critical safety requirements
- Select a sample of requirements for this rank and previous ranks for
evaluation, in this you should aim to develop several areas of some personal
expertise w.r.t. requirements over time.
- Discuss with the Scout his progress &
satisfaction with the Troop
- Discuss how the Scout lives the Scout Motto, Law & Promise
- Ask for the Scout's input on alternate
activities or methods or areas for improvement in Troop operation.

- Of the Troop's outdoor activities which does he like the most - and the
least
- With the other parents participating
privately discuss and conclude if the Scout meets the rank requirements,
(Yes/No/Conditional)
- Meet with the Scout and communicate results
including an assessment of apparent strengths and weaker areas and any
suggestions w.r.t. their role or opportunities within the Troop. For
conditional approvals identify what needs additional focus and what
follow-up is required.

any general or specific messages for the Troop BOR Coordinator to take back
to the committee / Scoutmaster on overall readiness of Scouts at the BOR and any
general consistent feedback themes or issues with the BOR or Troop operations.
