First Welcome to Troop 278!

You will find useful information on the Troop Forms/Links Page (see button above also) covering an introduction to Scout history, regional Boy Scout web-pages, Troop operations, summer camps & Scout uniform requirements as well as a Membership Application Form.

Check the Troop 278 Scouting Overview, the Troop 278 New Scout/Parent Introductory Guide and the Troop Annual Calendar. This will give you an understanding of the basic structure of the Troop, the typical annual program of events and terminology we use. See what we think is different and unique about Troop 278.

Your son will be assigned to a Patrol which will have a Patrol Leader. You can find more information on roles & contact information for Scouts and the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters in the Troop Roles & Responsibilities & Contact Information pages. There you will also find details of other adult leadership roles in the Troop. Some of these pages are password protected to limit SPAM and inappropriate usage. You can access Scoutmaster and a few other links - please call by phone to initiate contact also please fill out the Troop's Web Approval Form (names, address, phone numbers, email & approvals) - see the Web Policy Page. This form can be submitted by email (or hard copy) to capture all required personal information and to sign up for full Troop website access and Troop Newsletter subscriptions.

Meetings:
The whole Troop meets 2-3 times per month on Monday evenings and usually also has at least one Troop activity planned every month (camping, hiking, backpacking or other). Once you join get signed up for the
email newsletters to stay in touch with Calendar updates. General upcoming calendar items are on the home page - you can also find out more about joining the Troop by attending a regular Troop meeting (please call the Scoutmaster first so we know to greet you).

Scouts are required to pay dues of $0.50 per meeting - see the dues guidelines

See the requirements to become a Boy Scout to the left as well as some early rank advancement requirements.

Troop Resource Survey:
We do ask that parents contribute some of their time & support to the Troop as well as to their sons individual progress in Scouting. We hold a new Scout parent orientation meeting soon after the usual Cub Scout transition to Scouting (~March) and at this time we will ask you to complete the Troop Resource Survey to indicate areas where you may be willing & able to support the Troop. We usually specifically ask parents to sign-up for volunteer activities/roles in our October Annual Parent Meeting so you will have some time to get used to the Troop and decide how you can best help. You can always update your Resource Survey inputs later or just volunteer for alternate items.

Just browsing... but interested in joining Troop 278?

This website is not really a recruiting tool - but you can get an idea of what our Troop does in these pages... If you are interested in joining Troop 278 please contact the Scoutmaster - details on the Contacts Page.

Boys must be aged between 11-17 to join or transfer into the Troop or may join at age 10 only if they have completed the 'Arrow of Light' award in Cub Scouts or have already graduated the 5th grade.

Usually Cubs Scouts visit the Troop in the winter & formally join in the spring of their 5th grade school year. Troop 278's largest source of new Scout recruits are local Cub Packs 278 & 978 but all others are welcome.
