West For Oak Creek Car
Camp & Overnight Backpack
We will be doing a car-camp and overnight
back-pack to the Oak Creek Canyon area
near Sedona Arizona on Oct 24,25, and 26. The
plan is to go up to Bootlegger campground on highway 89A just north of
Sedona on Friday night and do a car camp. On Saturday morning, we will
back-pack into the West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon about 3 to 4 miles and
camp along the creek on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, will will
back-pack out and return to Phoenix. This
is planned to be a relatively easy back-pack trip with very little
elevation change. However, we will be crossing the creek multiple times
during the hike and at one point, we will need to walk in the creek for
maybe .25 miles. The creek is normally only ankle deep. There is a
very good chance everyone's feet will get wet so it will be important to
bring an extra pair of tennis shoes or some other shoes other than your
hiking boots. An extra set of cloths will be important just in case
something other than your feet get wet. Flyers will be available on the
