Thanksgiving Family Hike Family hike the day after Thanksgiving to the top of south mountain. Leader: Mr. Moore (& TBD) Friday November 28th @ 8:00am to approx noon Post Trip Update: 27 Scouts and family members completed the whole loop hike! We had a great day for hiking - a little mist early and cool temps for the climb up Corona De Loma trail. We had great views of the Estrella mountains with mist swirling around the base - I have never seen them look like that before! We continued through Eagle Valley to Buena Vista Trailhead then on to one of the highest points on South Mountain where we rested a whole and tool in the almost 36- degree view. At the top we had a clear day, sunshine and little wind - perfect conditions . We came down an unmarked trail and arrived back at the trailhead right on time! Another successful Troop278 outing! Mr. Moore. Original Announcement: This is an approx 7.5 mile loop hike with about 1200 feet of elevation gain. Taken slowly it is not too strenuous and affords lots of stopping places - great views over the Desert Classic Trail, all of Ahwatukee, Eagle Valley and from the top a 360 degree view of the whole valley. See the Chinese Wall as we hike the Desert Classic north & south loops to the Corona De Loma Trail up to Buena Vista Trailhead, a short part of the National Trail up to the Eagle Valley overlook and then a secret trail back down to our starting point. However at any point family groups can return the way you came (all downhill on the way back) for a shorter hike. See the Flyer |
