South Eastern Arizona Tour: Kartchner Caverns & Ramsey Canyon Sat-Mon January 13th/15th 2007 Trip Leaders: Mr Bigham & Ms Potter Event Summary: Nineteen Scouts and their families from Troop 278 put their camping equipment and courage to the test on Saturday Jan 13th, 2007 as we explored Kartchner Caverns and the campground. A bone chilling wind was blowing out of the North and the air was coming straight down from Canada with a daytime high temperature reaching no more than 48 degrees. As the sun set we all gathered for an outstanding "Pot Luck" supper made possible by our scouts families. Crock pots of BBQ pulled pork, Sloppy Joe, Baked pasta, Pasta skillet delight and "Potter Stew" were just some of main course favorites Salads, Breads and Homemade deserts completed the meal. As the night grew colder our Troop slowing retired one by one into their shelters of warmth. The night sky became crystal clear and we observed the Milky Way above our heads for those brave enough to venture out of their sleeping bags. Sunday morning we awoke to the sun shining We all survived the night with stories to tell. Temperatures dropped to below freezing. Mr Kofron said his sleeping bag was rated to 0 degrees but he wants a refund. Mr Kult hopes he does not have to replace his water pipes on his tent camper as all water spigots and pipes were frozen solid. After our brave Scouts made breakfasts for their families we all packed up our gear and left for the day. Some went straight home while a few others explored Sierra Vista, Ramsey Canyon, Fort Huachuca, and the Pima Air museum. For all said above - Southeastern Arizona has many adventures to explore on other trips. These Scouts truly know the meaning of "Be Prepared" Mr. Bigham
