Quartz Peak Hike

This day hike is a challenging days hiking on the nearby Sierra Estrellas. While Quartz Peak (4056 feet) is in clear view from the foothills area our access is from the west side of the Estrella mountains on some dirt roads. High clearance vehicles will be required for the travel to the trailhead (1550 feet).

The hike begins in Rainbow Valley and is approximately 6 miles round trip, the elevation gain to the peak is almost 2500 feet making it a fairly strenuous hike. The trail is loose enough that hiking boots are recommended. The views are however quite excellent. To the west is a dramatic panorama of rugged mountain ranges and desert plains, and to the east metropolitan Phoenix unfolds over the valley of the lower Salt River. Quartz Peak is a point on the spine of the Sierra Estrella capped with an outcrop of white quartz.

Please see attached flyer for more details.
