Kinder Crossing Backpack First Backpacking Trip of '07/'08 activity program - Sat Sept. 22nd - Sunday Sept 23rd Trip Leaders: Mr. Saba & Mr. Kofron This is an excellent first overnight backpacking trip Post Trip Report 4 Adult leaders and 14 Scouts made the trip up to Kinder Crossing, a beautiful part of West Clear Creek in Northern Arizona. After completing the short hike in, the scouts quickly set up camp and made their way to the water. Kinder Crossing has a wonderfully large swimming area but the water is COLD!! The Scouts spent most of the day enjoying the water, catching crawfish, using the rock slides and catching a little sun. Late in the afternoon, we were greeted with rain showers, really hard rain showers! It poured on us from about 4pm until 9pm that evening. Many Scouts took shelter in their tents for some reading, card games and general messing around. We made a quick dinner and built a fire which we were able to maintain throughout the evening. The highlight of the night was a crawfish boil by Mr. Link! The crawfish tasted great! It rained off and on throughout the night and the hike out in the morning was somewhat damp. Other than having a little more equipment cleanup when we returned home, all the Scouts handled the rain well and also learned many lessons about backpacking gear! This will be one of those trips that we talk about for years to come! Mr. Saba |
